Why Chicago Manufacturers Trust O’Hare Precision Metals for Round Steel Bar Supply

We’ve supplied precision-ground and cold-finished round steel bar from Chicago, IL, since 1970. Engineers, buyers, and procurement managers across the Chicago area rely on us for consistent material, tight tolerances, and real support on every order.

Manufacturers need a supplier who delivers correct specs every time. We hold tolerances to .0001 inches and surface finishes of 8 micro inches or better. That level of accuracy reduces your downstream scrap and setup time significantly.

What Sets O’Hare Precision Metals Apart From Other Round Steel Bar Suppliers

We’ve served commercial and industrial customers for over five decades from our Chicago facility. Our grinding, machining, and finishing services all happen on site under ISO 9001:2015 certified quality control. Every phase of your order gets inspected before it moves forward.

Our product range covers nine material categories, including stainless steel, alloy steel, carbon steel, tool steel, aluminum, nickel alloys, medical grade stainless, brass, copper, bronze, and titanium. You won’t need three different suppliers to fill one bill of materials when you work with us.

A Material Range Built for Real Manufacturing Needs

Stainless steel alone covers more than 20 grades. Grade 303 works well for nuts, bolts, and gears where machinability matters most. Grade 316 offers the strongest corrosion resistance in the austenitic family and goes into pharmaceutical, marine, and medical implant applications.

Alloy steel includes 4130 for aircraft and hydraulic applications, 4340 for automotive crankshafts, and 52100 for aircraft bearings. Carbon steel runs from mild 1018 for bending and crimping work through 1045, the most common shafting steel. Tool steel spans the A, D, H, M, O, S, and W series in DCF, ground, or rough turned finish.

On-Site Services That Keep Your Order Moving

We saw cut using cold saw blades and CNC automated equipment handling up to 7 inches in diameter. Chamfering covers undercuts, V-cuts, welding preparation, and deburring. Milling holds tolerances of plus or minus 0.0001 inches across stainless, aluminum, carbon, alloy steels, copper, and cast iron.

Burnishing creates compressive residual stress on cylindrical and conical workpieces, which protects shaft fillets, hydraulic components, and sealing surfaces. Polishing is available across stainless, brass, copper, bronze, titanium, and aluminum with specific RA finishes. Packaging includes tube and collar wrapping, custom wood boxes, and paper wrap in bundles.

Medical Grade Material and Precision Grinding That Meets Strict Standards

We carry chromium-nickel alloys with a minimum 10% chromium content for medical and surgical applications. Grade 304 is recommended for forging surgical tools. Grade 316LVM is the vacuum melt variant used where biocompatibility requirements are strictest.

Our centerless and precision grinding process delivers the surface finish and dimensional accuracy that medical instrument and implant applications demand. That’s not just about appearance. It’s what makes the material functionally suitable for contact with the human body.

ISO 9001:2015 Certified Quality Control at Every Phase

We are ISO 9001:2015 certified and run quality control inspections at each phase of operation. That covers raw material selection, in-process checks, and final release. Nothing ships until it passes inspection at every stage.

Consistent inspection across every order means you’re not gambling on batch-to-batch variation. Engineers and procurement managers who specify tight tolerances get material that actually holds those tolerances across the full run, every time.
